The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has issued an urgent Impact-Based Weather Warning for today, Sunday, October 12, 2025, as a significant rainstorm moves westward across the region.

Originating from Nigeria and Benin, this storm is set to bring severe weather conditions to Ghana, with heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and potential flooding expected across several parts of the country.

What You Need to Know:

Date of Warning: Sunday, October 12, 2025

Time of Issue: 0000 UTC, valid from 0130 UTC

GMet’s warning highlights the potential for heavy rainfall, which could lead to localized flooding in vulnerable, low-lying areas. Thunderstorms, some of which could be severe, are expected throughout the day, with moderate to strong winds adding to the potential hazards.

The storm’s westward trajectory suggests that regions near the eastern border may experience the heaviest downpours, though the entire country is at risk. As rainfall intensifies, flash floods may occur in urban and rural areas, particularly where drainage systems are already strained.

Thunderstorms: Expected to affect large parts of the country, with possible hail in some locations

The public is urged to take immediate action to prepare for potential flooding and severe weather conditions. GMet advises residents to:

Citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel, especially in flood-prone areas.

Citizens are to stay indoors during the peak of the storm.

All have been advised to look out for and follow local authorities’ instructions regarding evacuations or road closures.
