Seychelles’ President-elect Patrick Herminie has invited the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, to attend his inauguration scheduled for 26 October, in Victoria, the capital of the island nation.
According to a letter read at the Manhyia Palace, Herminie described the Asantehene’s presence as significant, citing the “shared historical and cultural bond” between the Asante Kingdom and the people of Seychelles.
In keeping with Asante tradition, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II sought the consent of the Asanteman Council before deciding to honour the invitation.
The council unanimously approved his attendance, noting that the King’s presence would enhance the image of the Asante Kingdom on the international stage.
Herminie, leader of the United Seychelles Party, won the recent presidential runoff with 52.7% of the vote, defeating incumbent President Wavel Ramkalawan, who garnered 47.3%, according to official results released by the Seychelles Electoral Commission.
The upcoming inauguration is expected to draw regional and international dignitaries, underscoring Seychelles’ commitment to strengthening diplomatic and cultural relations across Africa.
