WHY GOOD PEOPLE FAIL IN POLITICS.

Musah Superior

Baba Jamal won! He bought the votes! He paid more than the other 4. The people were happy. They got the goodies. And voted for him.

Baba Jamal and the other contenders variously paid money to the delegates. They were tricking them for votes.

Baba Jamal and the 4 others knew they were corrupt and corrupted the voters.

That is how general Ghanaian or African politicking is.

Some people say politics is a game of deception, corruption and dishonesty. BJ and the vanquished demonstrated it this afternoon.

Musah D is right. Bribery and corruption defeated Science.

Black Rasta is Ghanaian musician and media personality. He calls it POLITRICKS; not politics.

When you contest to become President, MP, Assembly Member, etc, you are seeking for the job for its power, perks and privilege.

Most “politrictians” pretend to seek for elective positions to serve the people selflessly.

They pretend to be honest just to outwit the voters. They buy votes pretending to be philanthropists.

Some spend huge amount of money during elections to get elected.

Politics is like fighting a war and everything is “fair” in wars because winning the war is the most important objective.

Sun Tzu, was a Chinese general, military strategist, writer and philosopher. He shared the art of winning war as,

“All warfare is based on deception. Hence, when we are able to attack, we must seem unable; when using our forces, we must appear inactive; when we are near, we must make the enemy believe we are far away; when far away, we must make him believe we are near.”

Good people are honest. They don’t deceive, lie or cheat.

They do not pretend to be what they are not.

They can’t claim to be honest while following numerous corrupt practices.

They do not say things they do not believe in.

They do not follow evil means even for achieving the noble ends.

Hence, good people are rarely successful politicians and good politicians are rarely good human beings.

The American writer Frank Herbert summed it up,

“Power attracts pathological personalities. It is not that power corrupts but that it is magnetic to the corruptible.”

Unfornatately, l am a politician. I am passionate about it. I believe we can right the wrongs in the game and make it attractive to good people. I have met three good and honest politicians. They are the late Baah Wiredu, DMB and Nkrabeah Effah Dartey.
