Fatimatu Abubakar, spokesperson for former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has hit back at IMANI Africa president Franklin Cudjoe after his criticism of the former leader’s recent meeting with New Patriotic Party presidential hopefuls.
In a Facebook post titled “From Think Tank to Attack Tank – Franklin Cudjoe’s Tragic Descent,” the former Minister of Information accused Cudjoe of abandoning objectivity and becoming a partisan voice for the ruling National Democratic Congress.
“It’s truly a spectacle to watch Franklin Cudjoe’s transformation in real time,” she wrote. “For years, he postured as a neutral, intellectual head of a think tank. That facade has now completely crumbled.”
Her comments followed Cudjoe’s post questioning why NPP aspirants would “take inspiration from failure” by meeting with Akufo-Addo, whom he described as one of Ghana’s most failed leaders.
Abubakar described Cudjoe’s remarks as “vitriolic attacks” and “unhinged,” arguing that the IMANI president had crossed from policy critique into political propaganda.
She listed Akufo-Addo’s two electoral victories over President John Mahama as proof that voters had repeatedly endorsed his leadership, noting that Mahama only returned to office after Akufo-Addo’s constitutionally limited second term ended.
“How can a supporter of a man who was repeatedly rejected by the electorate in favour of Akufo-Addo now turn around and call that same leader a failure?” she asked. “This isn’t analysis. It’s pure, unadulterated hate and spite.”
Abubakar also urged Cudjoe to focus on holding the current administration accountable instead of attacking the former president.
“Use your platform to ask about the 24-hour economy, the fight against galamsey, insecurity and jobs for the youth,” she wrote.
“Calling Akufo-Addo Ghana’s worst leader won’t make Mahama’s second term any better,” she added. “The mask is off. We see you.”
