Gov’t hikes cocoa producer price to GHS3,625 per bag

ACCRA – The government has announced a further increase in the producer price of cocoa for the 2025/2026 season, raising it from GHS3,278.75 to GHS3,625 per 64kg bag. This translates into GH¢58,000 per tonne.

The decision was taken by the Producer Price Review Committee (PPRC), chaired by the Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson. This marks the second adjustment in the cocoa price since the government assumed office in January 2025.

It will be recalled that on August 4, 2025, the government announced a significant increase in the producer price for the 2025/2026 season, raising it from $3,100 to $5,040 per tonne — a 62.58% jump in dollar terms.

Speaking at a press briefing to announce the latest review, Dr. Ato Forson explained that the upward adjustment was necessary to ensure Ghana’s farm gate price remains competitive after the Ivory Coast raised its price on Wednesday, October 1.

“You will recall the government on August 4, 2025, announced a producer price of cocoa for the 2024/2025 season at GH¢3,278.75 per bag or GH¢51,660 per tonne. This translated to about $5,040 per tonne, representing 70% of the gross FOB price. That announcement was based on a forecast of the world market price and exchange rate projections.

“Subsequently, we have seen some changes, and we needed to review the price. After meeting with stakeholders, we are pleased to announce a new producer price, which takes effect from Friday, October 3, 2025. On this basis, the price has been increased to GH¢3,625 per bag or GH¢58,000 per tonne. This means every cocoa farmer will now earn GH¢400 more per bag,” he stated.
