The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Kodua, has condemned insensitive social media commentary by some individuals linked to the party following the tragic helicopter crash at Sikaman in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region.

Speaking during a visit to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) national headquarters on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, he described the comments as inappropriate and unfortunate.

“There are certain comments made by people who may not even be close to the leadership of their party, but when such unfortunate and condemnable statements are made, it is important for the leadership to distance ourselves from them and make it clear that they do not reflect the values of our party. Some are claiming the NPP is behind these events, and others are even saying they expected certain people to have died,” he noted.

Kodua apologised to the government and President John Dramani Mahama for any offence caused by individuals affiliated with the NPP.

“If anything offensive or inappropriate has come from our side, I would like, on behalf of our party, to apologise to the NDC and, through you, to His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama. Such behaviour does not reflect the position of the New Patriotic Party, and we will never condone it,” he stressed.

He further emphasised the importance of national unity in difficult times. “It is important that, in times like these, we also show solidarity,” he added.

The devastating helicopter crash in the Adansi Akrofuom District claimed the lives of several high-ranking government officials and military personnel, including the Minister of Defence, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, and the Minister of Environment, Science, and Technology, Alhaji Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed.

The officials were scheduled to attend the Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Program (rCOMSDEP) in Obuasi. Reports indicate that the aircraft lost contact with radar shortly after takeoff.

A state funeral will be held on Friday, August 15, 2025, at the Black Star Square in Accra to honour the eight fallen heroes.
