How Bright Aweh ‘cleared his house’ to allegedly murder immigration officer – Report

Angel FM’s court correspondent, Ama Brago, has shared chilling details surrounding the alleged murder of Stephen King Amoah, a 38-year-old Ghana Immigration Service officer, by Bright Aweh, who has been charged with murder and appeared before the Adabraka District Court on August 8, 2025.

According to Brago, Aweh allegedly manipulated events to ensure privacy at his residence on the day of the crime.

Speaking during the Friday midday news on Angel FM, she explained that Aweh, who lived with his wife in a storey building, sent his wife away from the house on the morning of the incident, instructing her to run an errand on his behalf.

He also informed his upstairs neighbour, who was preparing to leave for work, that he would be fumigating the house due to a “funny smell” in the compound.

Aweh advised the neighbour to return home late, around 8 p.m., even though the neighbour normally closed from work at 5 p.m. When the neighbour offered to contribute to the cost of the fumigation chemicals, Aweh declined, insisting he would handle it himself.

“When issues like this come up, we put our ears to the ground. The information we are getting about Bright Aweh, who has been accused of murdering his friend, is that he lives with his wife and, on the morning of that day, he sent his wife away to pick up something on his behalf.

“Further investigation reveals that the house they live in is a storey building, and he had informed his neighbour upstairs that ‘since you are going to work, I have sensed some funny smell in the compound, so I will be fumigating the house. Make sure you take your time and return late,’” she stated.

Brago further reported that three motorbikes entered Aweh’s residence before Amoah arrived, although their purpose remains unknown.

Amoah, who had told his nephew he was visiting Aweh to collect money owed to him, entered the house but never came out alive. However, Aweh’s car was later seen leaving the compound, its contents unknown.

“The investigation further shows that when he called his friend Stephen Amoah to come, someone who has followed the case reported that three motorbikes entered the house prior to his arrival. But the question is, what were they doing in the house? As to what happened when Stephen entered after the motorbikes had arrived, nobody knows… The last thing we saw was that the young man did not emerge again, but the car of his friend, who has now been charged, came out. As to what was in the car, no one knows,” she added.

Disturbingly, WhatsApp messages were sent from Amoah’s phone after the incident, stating, “I have received the money; my wife is not around, so today I am going to chase girls.”

Investigators suspect Aweh sent these messages to mislead Amoah’s contacts.

At a press conference on August 4, 2025, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) disclosed key forensic findings from searches at Aweh’s home.

According to Director-General COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, a July 16 search, conducted with support from the Counter Terrorism Unit and Kwabenya District Police, uncovered bloodstains in the living room, signs of an attempted cleanup, freshly painted walls, and an empty can of spray paint.

A subsequent search on July 24, 2025, executed under a warrant, revealed additional bloodstains and a blood-stained fufu pestle wrapped in polythene, found in bushes about 100 metres from Aweh’s residence.

Aweh’s impounded vehicle also contained bloodstains, with lab tests confirming the presence of human blood. DNA samples from Amoah’s mother and son are now being used to assist forensic profiling.

Stephen King Amoah was reported missing on July 4, 2025, after leaving his home at Ashongman Estate to meet Aweh, who allegedly owed him GH¢200,000. On July 9, his charred body—bearing multiple stab wounds to the chest and neck—was found wrapped in a woollen carpet in a gutter near the GBC Satellite area, opposite Comet Estate.

Initially charged with kidnapping, Aweh was re-arrested and charged with murder following the discovery of this evidence. The Ghana Police Service says investigations are ongoing, with a special operation underway to identify potential accomplices.
