NPP calls for unity and renewal in new year message after 2024 election defeat

The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Kodua Frimpong, has urged party members and supporters to remain hopeful and united as the party embarks on a rebuilding process following its defeat in the December 7, 2024 general elections.

In a New Year message issued to members of the party and the general public, Mr. Kodua Frimpong acknowledged the pain of the electoral loss but stressed that the setback had not broken the spirit of the NPP.

He noted that the party’s identity is rooted in its enduring values and resilience rather than the outcome of a single election.

According to the NPP General Secretary, the party has already taken “bold and decisive steps” to address structural challenges and strengthen its future electoral prospects.

Among the key reforms outlined is the decision to hold the Presidential Primary ahead of all other internal elections, a move he described as unprecedented but necessary. He also cited constitutional amendments, the establishment of a Training and Research Centre known as The Patriotic Institute, and the reactivation of the party’s membership drive and dues payment platform.

Mr. Kodua Frimpong assured the rank and file that despite anticipated challenges in 2026, the leadership of the party remains committed to overcoming obstacles with determination and collective support.

He announced that several major activities would be undertaken this year, including the Presidential Primary, elections of party officers at all levels, a reconciliation and unity drive, and the formation of sector committees.

He further reaffirmed the party’s commitment to ensuring free, fair, and transparent processes in both the upcoming flagbearer contest and all internal elections.

Touching on emerging divisions ahead of the presidential race, the General Secretary cautioned against factionalism, emphasizing that unity remains the party’s greatest strength.

The NPP General Secretary also commended the Minority in Parliament, led by Osahen Alexander Afenyo-Markin, for what he described as their steadfast defense of the party’s values and the interests of Ghanaians.

He equally praised the party’s Legal Directorate, led by Gary Nimako Marfo, for its role during what he termed “trying times.”

Mr. Kodua Frimpong expressed gratitude to party executives at all levels, grassroots members, communicators, elders, patrons, Members of Parliament, and national executives, describing them as the backbone of the party whose loyalty and resilience have sustained it after the electoral defeat.

Calling for renewed hope in the New Year, he urged members to remain steadfast and optimistic, stressing that better days lie ahead for the party.

He reaffirmed the NPP’s commitment to serving Ghana with integrity, vision, and dedication, while calling on all Ghanaians to embrace peace, progress, and unity.
