NPP denies alleged $280k contract with Ukrainian firm for anti-Mahama smear campaign

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has denied allegations that it contracted a Ukrainian public relations firm, Brandcom, to execute an online smear campaign ahead of Ghana’s 2024 general elections.

In a statement issued on Saturday, August 3, 2025, the party described as “completely false, baseless, and defamatory” a report published by AllAfrica.com alleging that Brandcom is demanding $280,000 from the NPP for services rendered.

The publication, which claimed the NPP had engaged the firm to manage fake social media accounts and disseminate smear content, has been labelled by the party as an attempt to “tarnish the image of the party and sow public distrust.”

“The NPP has no contractual relationship—past or present—with any entity known as Brandcom, based in Ukraine or elsewhere,” the statement signed by the National Communications Directorate read.

The party stressed that it has never authorised any foreign agency to engage in unethical digital activities or propaganda, insisting that its campaigns have always been conducted with integrity and respect for democratic norms.

The NPP further warned of potential legal action against Brandcom and any media house that republishes the report, demanding a full retraction of what it called unsubstantiated claims.

“We reject any insinuation that undermines our record of issue-based campaigning,” the statement said.

Reaffirming its focus on “building a prosperous Ghana through bold, transparent, and ethical leadership,” the party urged media outlets and the public to remain vigilant against what it described as misinformation from “faceless entities.”
