NPP’s Nana B clarifies alleged assault on NDC delegation at Akwatia

Henry Nana Boakye, National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), popularly known as Nana B, has provided clarification regarding reports of an alleged assault on members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at Akwatia.

The incident, which occurred during the one-week memorial service for the late Member of Parliament for Akwatia, Ernest Yaw Kumi, was widely reported as an attack by some NPP members on NDC National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, and other dignitaries.

However, speaking to Accra-based GHOne TV in an interview shared on X on August 31, 2025, Nana B refuted claims of a physical attack.

He explained that the reaction from some attendees stemmed from what they perceived as inappropriate attire worn by the NDC delegation, as well as a gesture made by Chairman Asiedu Nketiah that allegedly triggered unrest.

Nana B described the actions of the NDC delegation as “uncalled for,” suggesting that their conduct contributed to the tensions at the event.

“For me, the NDC candidate wasn’t attacked. Look, they came for this one week dressed inappropriately. I saw the Deputy Secretary in a certain khaki; it looks like they are not perturbed by the death of our brother. General Asiedu Nketiah was in a certain smock. I saw my brother Yammin in a certain T-shirt. In fact, the candidate himself was in a white or pink attire and when General Asiedu Nketiah was coming, he was doing this sign (demonstrating the signature ‘killer’ sign of the NDC Chairman); very, very inappropriate.

“We are coming for the former MP’s one-week observation and you are rather coming, signalling that there will be a certain death, or chaos; very inappropriate. They did not attack anybody; rather, they were protesting the inappropriateness of their dressing, and particularly the sign by the Chairman,” he clarified.
