“These elections cannot be rigged” – Nana B assures delegates ahead of NPP primaries

The National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, has dismissed claims that the party’s January 31 presidential primaries could be manipulated, assuring delegates that their votes will count.

Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Wednesday, January 21st, 2026, Mr Boakye said the structure, transparency, and oversight built into the process make rigging impossible.

“These elections cannot be rigged in any form or shape,” he declared. “No human being can control the minds and desires of over 220,000 delegates.”

His comments followed a joint stakeholder meeting between the NPP Presidential Elections Committee, the Ghana Police Service and the Electoral Commission to review preparations for the primaries.

Nana B said all five presidential aspirants had expressed satisfaction with the work of the Elections Committee, which he described as independent and credible.

“The National Executive is not part of the Elections Committee. The committee is chaired by respected persons, and no one has questioned their integrity,” he said.

He disclosed that proxy voting had been scrapped entirely after concerns that it could be abused, describing the decision as a key safeguard to protect the integrity of the vote.

According to Nana B, delegates’ albums have already been circulated to aspirants, polling will be conducted openly, and counting will take place at the polling stations in the presence of agents and Electoral Commission officials.

“By two or three o’clock, voting will be over. Counting will start immediately at the polling centre. Nobody can steal these elections,” he said.

Looking ahead, Nana B revealed that the party will hold a high-level meeting involving all presidential aspirants, the Council of Elders, former President Nana Akufo-Addo, national executives and Minority leadership, during which aspirants will be expected to commit to a peace pact.

The pact, he explained, would require aspirants to accept the outcome of the primaries and work together for party unity.

He said the conduct of the internal elections should reassure the general public of the NPP’s readiness to manage national elections.

“This process will be free, fair, open, credible and peaceful,” he said. “Afterwards, we will all rally behind whoever the delegates choose.”
