“I walk freely without arrest or intimidation despite NDC claims in opposition” — Former Health Minister hits back at critics

Former Health Minister Kwaku Agyemang Manu has dismissed claims circulating after the 2024 general elections that he would be arrested or had suffered a health crisis following his defeat in the Dormaa Central Constituency, insisting he remains free, healthy, and actively engaged in his work.

Speaking at the commissioning and handover of the Asikasu–Nsuhia Maternity Ward, a project he initiated while serving as Member of Parliament and later completed under the current MP, the former minister said reports that he collapsed or died after losing the December 7, 2024 election were false.

“I am a farmer and my farms continue to support me,” he said, explaining that he has not experienced the financial difficulties as some critics predicted after he left office.

Mr. Agyemang Manu also addressed claims made by members of the National Democratic Congress while the party was in opposition that he would face arrest and prosecution over alleged corruption once he left government.

According to him, those claims have not materialised.

He maintained that he served the country out of patriotism during his time as Ghana’s Health Minister and insisted he did not misuse public funds. Because of that, he said, he continues to move about freely without intimidation or legal trouble.

The former MP used the occasion to advise his successor, John Kwame Adu Jack, the current MP for Dormaa Central, to remain focused on the development agenda that earned him the mandate of voters and not yield to undue pressure from party supporters.

He also appealed to residents and political activists in the constituency to avoid overwhelming their MP with personal financial requests.

Instead, he encouraged them to pursue collective development initiatives that would benefit the wider community.

According to him, no Member of Parliament, regardless of personal wealth, can meet the individual financial needs of every supporter.

However, MPs can help address key community priorities that improve living conditions for everyone.

At the same event, the Dormaa Central Municipal Chief Executive, Dominic Adoma Ameyaw, called for cooperation between the former minister and the current MP to accelerate the completion of the constituency’s share of the government’s Agenda 111 hospital project.

Mr. Ameyaw noted that the project was initiated during Agyemang Manu’s tenure as Health Minister and said his experience in government could help move it forward.

He urged the former MP to share his knowledge and work with the present leadership to improve healthcare delivery in the constituency.

The MCE added that collaboration across political lines would be key to ensuring continued development in Dormaa Central.
