Sam George rejects DStv’s proposal, demands price reduction for Ghanaians

Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Sam George, has responded to DStv Ghana’s recent statement amid ongoing public concerns over high subscription fees.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the legislator described DStv’s approach as dismissive of the Ghanaian public, saying the company “does not take the Ghanaian people serious enough.”

I have read the release by DStv Ghana and taken full consideration that they vindicate my earlier position that they simply do not take the Ghanaian people serious enough.

Mr. George compared the situation in Ghana to Nigeria, where the same parent company, MultiChoice, complied with a court order to suspend similar price hikes after the Nigerian House of Representatives intervened.

“In April, when the Ghanaian cedi had appreciated by about 10%, inflation had dropped by over 5%, and fuel prices had declined, DStv still went ahead with a 15% increase,” he noted.

He also revealed a proposal made by DStv, which he flatly rejected. According to him, the company proposed to maintain the current bouquet prices but stop remitting revenue to their headquarters. “That offer lacks any logic,” he said, adding, “The essence of my action is to see Ghanaians pay a fair price.”

Mr. George insisted that his advocacy is rooted in economic fairness and protecting Ghanaian consumers from exploitative pricing.

While acknowledging the concerns of Ghanaian staff working for DStv, he called on them to “stand with the rest of us” in demanding what is right.

He concluded by stating he is open to further dialogue, but only if it is focused on price reductions. “Anything else is tangential and of no consequence.”
