Following the week-long conflict that claimed the lives of over 40 Ghanaians in the Savannah Region, thereby displacing over 40,000, with an estimated figure of 13,000 displaced in neighbouring Cote d’Ivoire, the Minority in Parliament has donated to the refugees in Vonkoro in the Bouna Region of Cote d’Ivoire.

A cash donation of CFA 2 million was made to support the critical needs of the displaced Ghanaians. Announcing the donation to the refugees, Nana Asafo-Adjei-Ayeh, the leader of the four-member delegation that visited the displaced Ghanaians in Vonkoro, said that;

“We are here on behalf of the Minority in Parliament and Ghanaians in their entirety to empathize with you for the ordeal you’re all going through as a result of this conflict.

We are making this donation to you to help alleviate some of the challenges you’re facing. We hope that a lasting resolution will be reached soon, allowing all of you to return home. Do accept this cash donation of CFA2 Million from us and use it to support yourselves,” he said.

Receiving the donation, Kawuro Kwasi David, the leader of the refugees in Vonkoro and Assemblyman for Bale Electoral Area in Bole, expressed gratitude to the Minority MPs for their kind gesture.

“We can only be grateful to you for your kind gesture as this will go a long way towards making sure that our stay here becomes comfortable. We do appreciate this from the Minority MPs of our Parliament” he stated.

The displaced Ghanaisns who were in high spirits expressed the optimism that with the Minority putting pressure on the government, their desire to return home to Ghana will be a reality.

“We believe that with you as the Minority, if you put pressure on the government, we shall achieve results as we wish very much to return home” a concerned refugee intimated.
