GES releases harmonized SHS prospectus to ease burden on parents

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has released a harmonised prospectus for all senior high and technical schools across the country.

Known as the “National Prospectus,” it is designed for prospective first-year students and spells out uniform requirements for fresh students.

Under the new arrangement, schools are expected to strictly adhere to the prospectus and not impose any additional items beyond those officially prescribed.

According to the GES, the initiative is aimed at alleviating the financial strain on parents by giving them advance notice of their children’s needs before the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) is implemented.

The national prospectus is grouped into three categories, with each sub-divided into basic needs and cleaning materials to make it easier for parents to prepare adequately.

Category A covers 27 basic items, including a hard body suitcase or trunk, chop box or hard plastic container, toiletries, beddings, footwear (school specific), underwear, cutlery, and educational materials such as a mathematical set and a scientific calculator.

Category B, which focuses on cleaning materials, has three groups: group one requires items such as hard hand gloves, liquid soap (5 litres) and washing powder; group two requires bleach, dustpan, long-handle broom and scrubbing brush; while group three requires a standing mop with mop bucket, duster and a short local broom.
