NPP flagbearer aspirants urged to hold joint unity presser ahead of primaries

National Chairman hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), David Kankam Boadu, has urged all five flagbearer aspirants of the party to come together and hold a joint press conference to demonstrate unity and mutual respect ahead of the 2026 primaries.

“All five aspirants must come together publicly,” Boadu stated firmly. “They should call for unity among themselves and among their supporters. It’s time for leadership in action, not just rhetoric.”

He continued, “The insults, the verbal attacks, and the backbiting on social media must stop immediately. Party unity is our only path forward.”

Addressing a press conference, Mr. Boadu also appealed to former Presidents John Agyekum Kufuor and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to intervene and help restore calm within the party.

“We need Kufuor and Akufo-Addo now more than ever. They must step in to call all aspirants to order, mediate this festering tension, and halt the barrage of insults flowing among supporters,” he said.

Boadu cautioned that failure by senior party figures to act could worsen divisions and harm the NPP’s reputation.

“If these aspirants cannot even agree publicly to denounce attacks and appeal for unity, how can they expect to lead the party and, ultimately, the country?” he questioned.

He emphasized that a united public front from the aspirants would send a strong signal to their followers and the nation at large.

“We must show Ghanaians that we value unity over factionalism. That despite ambitions, we are one party, one movement, bound for victory, not fractured and vulnerable,” he added.

The five aspirants seeking to become the NPP’s next presidential candidate are former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, Bosomtwe MP Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, Abetifi MP Bryan Acheampong, and former NPP Secretary Kwabena Agyei Agyepong.
