ACCRA – The CAF Safe Stadium Initiative workshop, which opened on Tuesday, has successfully concluded in Accra. The three-day program, hosted at the Ghana Football Association (GFA) headquarters, focused on strengthening stadium safety and security in Ghana and across African football.

Among those present were Executive Council member Eugene Noel Noble, GFA General Secretary Prosper Harrison Addo (Esq.), COP Lydia Donkor—Director General of the Police CID and Chairperson of the GFA Safety and Security Committee.

Also in attendance were Chairman of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA), John Ansah (who also serves as National Safety and Security Officer), Simon Ehomah (Western Regional FA Chairman), Kennedy Boakye Ansah (CEO of Nations FC), Delali Anku-Adiamah (Managing Director of Accra Hearts of Oak), Samuel Kwagyir (Head of Communications, Bibiani Gold Stars), and Stephen Botchway (Senior Administrator, Heart of Lions).

The workshop brought together Safety and Security Officers from all 18 Premier League clubs, members of the GFA Security Committee, and 16 Regional Sports Police Officers. Over the three days, participants received hands-on training in CAF Safety and Security Regulations, Accreditation and Access Control, Crowd Management, and Security Protocols before, during, and after matches.

The training was led by CAF security experts Xololi Nokithula Vilakati (Eswatini) and Sylvanus Obi (Nigeria).

The Safe Stadium Initiative is part of CAF’s wider effort to standardize safety measures and prevent stadium-related tragedies across the continent. The aim is to guarantee that every football event—from local league games to continental competitions—is held in a safe and secure environment.

With football’s growing popularity and fan engagement, CAF is stepping up efforts to safeguard players, supporters, and all stakeholders of the game. At the end of the workshop, participants were presented with certificates of completion.
