I HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY NOTICE OF NPP’S ANNULMENT OF ASHANTI CONSTITUENCY ELECTIONS – WONTUMI

Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, says he has not received any official communication from the party’s national leadership regarding the annulment of constituency executive elections in parts of the Ashanti Region.

According to him, the party has established channels for communicating decisions to regional executives, insisting that he cannot act on information circulating in the media without receiving an official notification.

“We do things according to our constitution, and when we want to communicate with the constituency, we have channels through which we do that. I have not received any letter. If a letter is released to the media and I have not received it through the party’s official channel, I won’t be aware,” he said.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, Chairman Wontumi explained that any official communication from the national leadership should ordinarily pass through the Ashanti Regional Secretary before reaching him.

“We have a secretary in the Ashanti Region. He could have been given the letter, which would then be passed on to me. I wasn’t aware of anything,” he stated.

“The National Council is supreme. It’s about constitutional rights. It is the delegates who have the decision to make, so if they make their decision for the leaders, I wasn’t aware of any order. As the Regional Chairman, I have received no letter or court order,” he added.

His comments come after the NPP’s National Steering Committee invalidated the outcome of constituency executive elections in Bantama, Afigya Sekyere East and Adansi Asokwa in the Ashanti Region.

The party said the elections, conducted over the weekend, were nullified because of alleged breaches of party directives, electoral regulations and, in some instances, court orders.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the National Steering Committee on Wednesday, July 15, following a review of the nationwide constituency executive elections.
