Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South Dr. Kingsley Agyemang has cautioned that underfunding the healthcare sector poses a grave threat to national development and public safety.

Speaking to journalists at Parliament, the lawmaker expressed deep concern over reduced budgetary allocations, emphasizing that a healthy population forms the essential foundation for economic value creation and national stability.

Agyemang linked the recent surge in HIV/AIDS transmission rates directly to diminished state spending on preventive measures, noting that awareness campaigns and the distribution of protection commodities have suffered severe setbacks due to inadequate funding.

He further highlighted a troubling rise in non-communicable diseases across the country, pointing out that conditions such as cancer and diabetes now account for one out of every two deaths nationwide.

The Abuakwa South legislator urged the government to prioritize public health investments in fiscal planning, warning that ignoring healthcare infrastructure and preventive programs will ultimately lead to higher mortality rates and long-term economic damage.
