Member of Parliament for Nsawam-Adoagyiri, Frank Annoh-Dompreh has called on African governments to integrate traditional medicine into national healthcare systems as the Pan-African Parliament adopted key health policy reforms during its plenary session.

Addressing the continental legislature in Midrand, South Africa, the Ghanaian lawmaker emphasized that indigenous plant-based remedies remain the primary source of healthcare for millions of citizens across the continent.

Annoh-Dompreh urged member states to establish strict regulatory frameworks, standardize herbal formulations, and back local research institutions to ensure safe and structured clinical application.

He noted that institutionalizing traditional medicine would expand affordable healthcare access, reduce reliance on costly pharmaceutical imports, and protect indigenous knowledge systems across African communities.

The Pan-African Parliament subsequently adopted resolutions encouraging member countries to enact statutory protections for herbal medicine practitioners and explore financing models to incorporate certified traditional treatments into national health insurance schemes.
