The Ashanti Regional DMB Communications team has strongly condemned what it describes as “unfortunate, misguided, and divisive” comments made by the Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem South, Hon. Kwaku Asante Boateng, against Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
In a press statement signed by the Coordinating Head, Mr. Victor Osei Poku, the group expressed deep concern over a viral video in which the MP allegedly referred to Dr. Bawumia as “alien” and “a stranger” to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) during a live appearance on Adom TV.
According to the statement, Hon. Asante Boateng’s remarks are “false, unbecoming of a senior party member, and disrespectful to the principles upon which the NPP was founded.” The group accused the MP of making “ill-informed and insensitive” comments driven by “personal frustration rather than facts.”
The Ashanti Regional DMB Communications emphasized that the NPP Constitution promotes inclusiveness, equality, and meritocracy, citing Articles 2(4), 3(1), and 13(3) (1&2). The statement reminded party members that the internal tensions in the NPP predate Dr. Bawumia’s political involvement, referencing the 1998 Sunyani primaries, Alan Kyerematen’s 2007 resignation, and the 2015 suspensions of some party officers.
“Dr. Bawumia’s contributions to the NPP and Ghana are monumental,” the statement read. “From his days as Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana to his service as Vice President, Dr. Bawumia has demonstrated unmatched competence, integrity, and dedication.”
The group also highlighted Dr. Bawumia’s role as a key witness in the 2013 Presidential Election Petition, describing it as “a proud milestone in Ghana’s democratic journey.” They lauded his “unwavering loyalty and intellect” as central to advancing the NPP’s vision of Development in Freedom.
Reaffirming the party’s commitment to unity and inclusiveness, the statement urged members—particularly Hon. Asante Boateng—to exercise restraint and decorum in public discourse as the party gears up for the 2028 general elections.
“The rise of Dr. Bawumia within the NPP is a testament to the party’s belief in rewarding competence, dedication, and service,” the statement concluded.
