Residents of Denkyira Adeade, near Diaso in the Upper Denkyira West District of the Central Region, have been left in darkness for over two weeks following a major power outage.
The prolonged blackout has forced the community’s chief, unit committee members, and traders to take to the streets in protest, demanding urgent intervention from authorities to restore electricity.
During a visit by Adom News, residents expressed frustration, saying the outage has crippled businesses, disrupted water supply, and made daily life unbearable.
Nana Akwasi Baah II, Chief of Adeade, revealed that officials from the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) had inspected the area and confirmed that the outage was caused by a faulty transformer. He expressed concern that many local businesses, particularly cold stores, are collapsing as a result.
“We appeal to the government and relevant authorities to intervene immediately,” he said.
Unit committee members also highlighted the discomfort of sleeping in heat and darkness, surrounded by mosquitoes. They called on the President, the Minister of Energy, and other key stakeholders to come to their aid.
Some traders revealed that they now pay up to GHC 10 just to charge their phones using private generators. Others reported that water taps have stopped flowing, and mobile money services have been grounded.
According to residents, life in the community has come to a standstill.
“Nothing is working. We are pleading with the government to help us,” one trader said, while another joked that some people are even losing relationships because they cannot charge their phones.
