The Member of Parliament for the Effutu Constituency in the Central Region, Hon. Afenyo Markin, has urged all members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) who may be feeling discouraged to remain steadfast, assuring them that the vibrant Minority in Parliament stands firmly behind the party.
Speaking on the Movement Morning Show with Kweku Dawuro, Hon. Afenyo Markin reaffirmed his commitment to supporting whichever aspirant emerges victorious in the upcoming NPP flagbearer election. He emphasized that unity is his topmost priority, stating that he will not take sides but will fully back the eventual winner in order to strengthen cohesion within the party.
He explained that after the NPP elects its flagbearer on Saturday, January 31, 2026, the responsibility of restoring and consolidating unity will rest on several key groups—namely the Minority Caucus in Parliament, former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, former President John Agyekum Kufuor, the Council of Elders led by Hackman Owusu-Agyeman, and former national executives of the party.
According to him, fostering unity within the NPP remains his most important mission. He added that once the new flagbearer is elected, the Minority in Parliament will engage him in discussions on strategic measures the party must adopt to secure victory in the 2026 general election.
In conclusion, Hon. Afenyo Markin condemned the treatment of Ashanti Regional Chairman, Chairman Wontumi, by the NDC government, describing it as unfair. He argued that the NDC is exploiting existing cracks within the NPP, stressing that the party must urgently unite to confront such challenges.
