Northern Region: NPP accuses court of travesty, maintains victory in Kpandai

The Northern Regional Executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have described the Tamale High Court’s directive for a rerun of the Kpandai parliamentary election as a “travesty of justice.”

According to the party, the ruling fails to reflect the will of the people, who overwhelmingly voted for the incumbent Member of Parliament, Mathew Nyindam.

The leadership insists that the court’s decision disregards clear electoral outcomes and undermines the democratic mandate given by the constituents during the polls.

Addressing a press conference in Tamale, the regional executives argued strongly that the election was free, fair, and transparent, leaving no basis for a rerun.

They maintained that Nyindam’s victory was decisive and unquestionable, indicating that any suggestion of irregularities was politically motivated.

The executives expressed disappointment that the court’s ruling appeared to validate what they described as unsubstantiated claims by their opponents.

The party leadership further emphasised that subjecting the entire constituency to a fresh election would unfairly burden both the electoral system and the residents of Kpandai.

They claimed such a move would not only waste resources but also heighten political tensions in a constituency that has already made its choice clear. The NPP urged stakeholders to respect the electoral verdict rather than attempting to overturn it through legal maneuvers.

Yussif Danjuma, the NPP’s Northern Regional Communication Director, reaffirmed the party’s firm position that no rerun would take place in Kpandai.

He stated that the party would explore all legitimate avenues to challenge what they view as an unjust ruling. Danjuma called on supporters to remain calm but resolute, assuring them that the party stands united in defending the integrity of the Kpandai election and the mandate of its elected representative.
