Bind political parties to national development plan – GATAC President

The President of the Global Africa Trade Advisory Chamber (GATAC), Dr. Dominic Oduro-Antwi, is calling for a binding legal framework to ensure political parties align their policies with Ghana’s long-term national development plan.

Dr Oduro-Antwi while commending government’s ongoing development efforts, raised concerns about policy inconsistency across successive administrations.

Ghana has adopted a 40-year national development plan aimed at achieving a just, free and prosperous society by 2057.

According to him, while governments often pursue development initiatives, the absence of a structured and continuous approach undermines progress.

“Across the political divide, there is a shared desire to see Ghana develop. That should place national interest above all else,” he said.

Dr Oduro-Antwi proposed legislation that would make it mandatory for political parties to incorporate the national development plan into their manifestos.

“There must be a system that compels continuity. Any government that comes into office should be able to sustain viable projects it inherits,” he stated.

He added that enforcing such a framework would promote discipline and accountability in governance.

He further stressed the need for attitudinal change, urging leaders to prioritise long-term national goals over short-term political interests.

“The national development plan should not remain on paper. It must guide every government that comes into power,” he said.
