Member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) communications team, Dennis Edward Aboagye, has been granted bail by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) after his arrest over ongoing investigations into alleged financial irregularities at the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation (IMCCoD).

Mr Aboagye was granted bail in the sum of GH¢50 million with three justified sureties following hours of engagement between his lawyers and EOCO officials on Monday, July 13, 2026.

The former Executive Secretary of IMCCoD was taken into custody as part of investigations into alleged financial and procurement-related irregularities at the committee.

According to EOCO, Mr Aboagye, together with former IMCCoD accountant Gerald Appiah and other unnamed individuals, is being investigated over the alleged misappropriation, misapplication, diversion and theft of public funds estimated at GH¢55 million.

The anti-graft agency said the investigation was triggered by a petition from the current Executive Secretary of IMCCoD, requesting further enquiries into the findings of a forensic audit covering the period between August 1, 2022, and February 2, 2025.

EOCO said the alleged offences under investigation include conspiracy to steal, stealing, using public office for profit, causing financial loss to the state, dissipation of public funds, defrauding by false pretences, money laundering and other related offences.

The arrest drew scores of NPP supporters and sympathisers to the EOCO headquarters, prompting the deployment of military personnel, police officers and national security operatives to maintain law and order and ensure the free flow of traffic.

The NPP has condemned the arrest, describing it as politically motivated and an attempt to intimidate members of the opposition.

EOCO, however, has maintained that the arrest forms part of ongoing lawful investigations and has assured the public that due process will be followed throughout the case.
