DADDY LUMBA SAGA: Court rejects attempt to halt burial

A Kumasi High Court has paved the way for the final farewell of Ghana’s highlife icon, Charles Kwadwo Fosuh, affectionately known as Daddy Lumba, after dismissing an injunction that sought to halt his funeral and burial arrangements.

The application, filed by Madam Akosua Serwaa Fosuh, who identifies herself as the legal wife of the late musician, aimed to stop the singer’s family and another woman — Ms. Priscilla Ofori, popularly known as Odo Broni — from going ahead with the funeral rites.

The case, charged with emotion and family tension, laid bare a painful dispute over widowhood rights, family authority, and love’s lasting claims. It reflected the complexities behind the public image of one of Ghana’s most beloved and enigmatic stars.

The court’s ruling now clears the path for the December 6, 2025, funeral at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, where thousands of fans are expected to gather to celebrate the life and music of the man whose voice shaped generations.

Madam Serwaa had argued that she was the only legally recognized spouse, insisting her rights were being overlooked. However, the family, led by Kofi Owusu Fosuh, maintained that arrangements were being made in accordance with custom and tradition — a process they say must go on to give the legend the dignified send-off he deserves.

The late Daddy Lumba passed away on July 26, 2025, leaving behind not just a rich catalogue of timeless hits but also a legacy that continues to stir hearts and headlines.

With the court’s decision, preparations for his grand farewell are set to continue — a bittersweet moment of closure for fans, friends, and family of a man whose music still echoes across Ghana and beyond.
