Manchester City’s forward, Antoine Semenyo, has etched his name into Premier League history by becoming the third Ghanaian player ever to win the coveted Player of the Month award.
The 26-year-old forward was recognized for his exceptional performances in February 2026, marking a sensational start to his career at the Etihad Stadium after his £64 million January transfer from AFC Bournemouth.
Semenyo’s remarkable achievements during February earned him the prestigious accolade, following a stellar run of form. The Ghanaian international scored three goals and provided one assist in five appearances, playing a crucial role in Manchester City’s rise up the league table. His performances not only earned him recognition from the Premier League but also added to his growing reputation as one of the best forwards in English football.
With this victory, Semenyo joins an exclusive list of Ghanaian football legends. He becomes the third player from the West African nation to ever win the Player of the Month award, joining the ranks of Tony Yeboah and Andre Ayew. Yeboah made history with Leeds United in 1995, winning the award twice, while Ayew earned the honour with Swansea City in 2015.
Semenyo’s triumph ends an 11-year wait for a Ghanaian player to receive the recognition, as no player from the country had claimed the award since Ayew’s win in August 2015.
