ACCRA – The New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, began vetting aspirants for its presidential primaries scheduled for January 31, 2026.
The exercise is taking place at the party’s headquarters in Adabraka, Accra, under the supervision of a committee chaired by Dr. Addo Kufuor.
The process opened with the vetting of former NPP General Secretary, Kwabena Agyepong, and is expected to conclude today with all five aspirants.
The others are former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, Abetifi MP Bryan Acheampong, and former Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum.
This stage follows the nomination period, which began in late July and closed on August 28, with all five hopefuls successfully submitting their forms by the deadline.
The presidential primary itself is set for January 31, 2026. Should no candidate secure an outright victory, a run-off between the top two contenders will be held on February 14, 2026.
Party leadership has urged aspirants and their supporters to maintain a clean and respectful campaign as the NPP prepares for what is expected to be a highly competitive contest.
