Some Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) have announced price hikes at the pump for October 2025.
Diesel prices, in particular, have seen a notable increase, with Shell raising the cost of a litre from GH¢13.89 to GH¢14.18 on October 2. While petrol prices have remained steady at GH¢13.44 per litre, this marks the beginning of anticipated changes in fuel costs as the first pricing window for October 2025 unfolds.
Key Fuel Price Changes
Diesel: GH¢14.18 per litre (up from GH¢13.89)
Petrol: GH¢13.44 per litre (no change)
The price hikes come in response to projections from the Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies, which forecasted marginal increases in fuel prices between October 1–15. Industry insiders also revealed that other OMCs are expected to implement similar price adjustments from October 3.
The price rises are being driven by two primary factors: climbing international fuel prices and the continued depreciation of the Ghanaian cedi. During the review period, the cedi weakened from GH¢12.07 to GH¢12.40 per US dollar, representing a 2.74% drop in value. This drop in the local currency is impacting the cost of imported goods, including petroleum products.
Additionally, global crude oil prices have seen an uptick of 1.57%, climbing from $67.39 to $68.45 per barrel. These combined factors have resulted in a rise in fuel prices for consumers in Ghana, with projections for further increases.
What to Expect in the Coming Weeks
Petrol: Expected to increase by up to 2.47%, possibly reaching GH¢14.52 per litre.
Diesel: Could see an increase between 1.36% and 3.41%, potentially hitting GH¢15.17 per litre.
Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG): Prices are expected to rise by 2.01% to 4.01%.
