Kennedy Agyapong’s camp demands sanctions against Wontumi, Abronye over comments

The campaign team of New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful Kennedy Agyapong is demanding disciplinary action against Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako (Wontumi) and Bono Regional Chairman Kwame Baffoe (Abronye DC) over recent remarks they made regarding the party’s upcoming presidential primaries.

This follows a statement from the party leadership distancing itself from their comments, which it said do not represent the official position of the NPP.

Wontumi had reportedly suggested that the decision to schedule the primaries for January 31, 2026, was intended to favour a particular candidate, while Abronye claimed he was in charge of compiling the Bono Regional album and could block certain individuals from voting.

Although Wontumi has since clarified that his comments merely echoed concerns from grassroots supporters on strategy, the Agyapong team insists the remarks risk undermining unity and the credibility of the internal electoral process.

Speaking on Channel One Newsroom, campaign spokesperson Kwasi Kwarteng described the statements as “reckless”, “divisive” and unconstitutional.

“We’re calling for a disciplinary process… until the party takes decisive action, that action is going to weaken the party and dent the image of the party out there,” he said, stressing that publicly distancing itself from the comments was not enough.
