Mustapha Hamid’s lawyers dismiss OSP’s asset seizure claims

Lawyers representing Dr. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, former Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), have dismissed claims by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) that assets valued at over GH₵100 million linked to their client have been seized.

In a statement issued by Hay & Partners at Law and signed by Hanifa Yahaya Esq., the legal team described the OSP’s assertions as “false, misleading, and damaging.”

They stressed that no properties or businesses belonging to or associated with Dr. Abdul-Hamid have been identified, traced, or confiscated by the OSP.

“Our client has no such assets, directly or indirectly, and no property valued at the amount mentioned exists in connection with him,” the statement clarified.

The lawyers further noted that the OSP’s amended charge sheet, filed on October 17, 2025—which outlines five counts of alleged offences—makes no mention of any seized assets or businesses linked to Dr. Abdul-Hamid.

They accused the OSP of engaging in “public theatrics and misinformation,” arguing that such conduct undermines the integrity of the prosecutorial body.

“As a public body created by law, the OSP is expected to act with fairness, integrity, and respect for the rights and dignity of all individuals. Misrepresenting facts before the court contradicts these obligations,” the statement read.

The legal team added that Dr. Abdul-Hamid has fully cooperated with the OSP throughout the investigation, attending all hearings and honouring every invitation.

They maintained that he has shown “utmost respect for the judicial process” and reminded the public that he remains innocent until proven guilty under the 1992 Constitution.

“It is unfortunate that instead of adhering to due process, the OSP has chosen media sensationalism,” the lawyers added, warning that spreading misinformation or prejudicing public opinion erodes trust in Ghana’s justice system.
