Miracles Aboagye ‘pleads’ with Kennedy Agyapong over ‘unwarranted threats’ ahead of flagbearership race

Dennis Miracles Aboagye, a special aide to former Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has written an open letter to fellow flagbearer aspirant and ex-Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, over what he described as “unwarranted threats” in the lead-up to the party’s internal elections.

In the letter posted on Facebook and available to Metro TV, which has since gone viral on social media, the aide expressed deep concern over Mr. Agyapong’s recent comments suggesting that he would not accept zero votes in any polling station during the upcoming NPP polls.

“Respectfully sir, this is out of place. Definitely not the best of commentary from a flagbearer aspirant. It’s an unwarranted threat and may stir up responses from thousands of people to bring up too many issues,” Miracles Aboagye cautioned.

He noted that while party members were encouraged to protect their ballots, votes were determined by actual voter decisions, not through threats or declarations.

“Surely sir, let’s all protect our ballots as it’s done in every election, but votes and numbers are not spoken into existence. You cannot threaten to have votes. If you get zero votes in a polling station, zero votes will be recorded for you and nothing can change that,” the letter read.

Citing past instances, Miracles Aboagye recalled that similar comments were made by Mr. Agyapong ahead of the 2023 presidential primaries, where he “categorically threatened the entire Central Region” should Dr. Bawumia win there.

“Sir, you know nothing will happen. Not because you cannot do anything. Nothing happened because rules are rules and no human can individually alter [them], unless the organisation agrees and adopts otherwise,” he said.

Dennis Miracles Aboagye stressed that such utterances only harm the NPP’s unity and image, especially as the party prepares for the 2028 general elections.

“This commentary at this time when we have barely 90 days to the elections looks more like a replay of the 2023 contest where you threatened the entire party should you not win,” he stated, adding that “the entire party had to endure and suffer so much from some of these utterances.”

He reminded Mr. Agyapong of previous interviews in which he reportedly said he would “stay in the party and cause trouble” if rejected by delegates, and at another time, joked about forming a new party, the “Abrɔ People’s Party,” to frustrate the NPP.

“Sir, you are an extremely valuable senior member of our dear party and lots of us young people pick inspiration from you to continue serving this party,” the aide wrote.

“You are needed by the party just as your competitors are needed and the party can’t be 100% efficient without you.”

Miracles Aboagye ended the letter with an emotional plea for calm and unity within the governing party.

“We are already traumatized and still dealing with some of these comments from the past and plead we do not have any more of these going into 2028,” he appealed.

“No one can make your zero vote 100 votes and no one can make your 100 votes zero votes. If any attempt is made, there are laid down processes to handle it, and the rules do not include threats and warnings.”

He urged the former Assin Central MP to “aid the rebuilding process” and help the NPP “get back stronger and quicker,” adding, “NPP is tired of the pissing in… We beg.”
