AKYEM ODA, EASTERN REGION – The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Akyem Oda constituency has issued a strong statement condemning what it describes as unlawful and excessive actions by a task force established by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Birim Central Municipality.
According to the party, disturbing reports have emerged of citizens being harassed and assaulted, with their only offence being the pursuit of lawful trade to sustain their families.
The statement noted that such actions are not only appalling but also represent a direct violation of the rule of law and the democratic principles on which the country stands.
While reiterating its commitment to the enforcement of laws and its zero tolerance for illegal activities, the NPP expressed disapproval of the “insensitive and excessive manner” in which the operations have been carried out. The party stressed that law enforcement must be exercised with respect for due process and human dignity.
The statement further raised concern over the alleged involvement of a former assembly member in the assault of innocent citizens. According to the party, such acts erode public trust and tarnish the integrity of local governance, undermining the very institutions meant to protect the people.
The NPP has therefore called on the Municipal Chief Executive to ensure justice and fairness in the handling of law enforcement issues. It emphasized that security operations should not resort to unlawful means but must be guided by the constitution and appropriate legal frameworks.
The statement was released by Kofi Naphtali, Communications Director of the NPP in the Akyem Oda constituency, who provided assurances that the party will continue to stand by the people in protecting their rights and livelihoods.
