Eugene Antwi: NPP must modernise operations to stay relevant

A former Member of Parliament for Subin, Eugene Boakye Antwi, says the New Patriotic Party (NPP) must modernise the way it operates if it hopes to remain competitive in Ghana’s changing political landscape.

Speaking on Good Afternoon Ghana on Metro TV, Boakye Antwi said the party can no longer rely on outdated organisational methods.

“We cannot be doing the things that Agyenim Boateng and co were doing. Those days there were no WhatsApps, there were no Facebooks, there were no Twitters,” he said.

According to him, the current political environment demands faster communication and more effective engagement with supporters.

“We live in a 24-hour media space. When something is happening, you have to deal with it,” he noted.

Eugene Boakye Antwi, who is seeking the General Secretary position of the party, said part of his vision is to modernise the party’s communication systems and fundraising strategies.

“Innovate and modernise the way the party operates, including its fundraising activities and how it effectively communicates its vision, values, programmes and policies,” he said.

He argued that political parties must adapt to technological changes to remain connected with voters, especially the younger generation.

The former deputy Works and Housing Minister said strengthening the party’s internal structures and updating its operational methods would help restore public confidence in the NPP.

“My focus is to help reorganise the party, modernise the party machinery and restore the confidence of the Ghanaian people,” he said.

Boakye Antwi has declared his intention to contest for the NPP’s General Secretary position as the party prepares to elect new national executives following its defeat in the 2024 general elections.
