Former Defence Minister and Member of Parliament for Bimbilla, Dominic Nitiwul, says former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia does not view any of his rivals in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential race as a threat, stressing that his campaign is deliberately avoiding personal attacks.
Speaking in an interview on Joy News, Mr Nitiwul explained that Dr Bawumia’s campaign strategy is focused on appealing directly to NPP delegates and supporters rather than targeting fellow contenders in the race.
“Bawumia is not looking at anybody as a threat,” he said. “He is looking to the NPP supporters to give him that mandate, and we believe that he will win.”
Mr Nitiwul dismissed claims that the former Vice President is framing his campaign against any particular individual, insisting that such an approach is not part of Dr Bawumia’s political philosophy.
“It’s not targeting an individual that is not our campaign,” he stated, emphasising that the focus remains on policies, vision, and unity within the party.
Asked to identify the strongest challenge among Dr Bawumia’s main contenders, Mr Nitiwul acknowledged the strengths of all four candidates but maintained that none is being singled out as a primary rival.
“Trust me, they’re all strong in their various areas,” he said. “Ken, Bryan, Kwabena and Adutwum all have their own following. They all have their own strength.”
According to Mr Nitiwul, this reality explains why Dr Bawumia has avoided negative campaigning, warning that personal attacks often signal insecurity and can create lasting divisions within the party.
“If you really believe you are going to win an election as a presidential candidate, you don’t go running down other candidates, because you will need them after the elections,” he said, adding that negative campaigning only creates long-term problems for the NPP.
