The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Savannah Region has suspended all party activities and ordered flags to fly at half-mast following the death of former Savannah Regional Minister and Member of Parliament for Salaga South, Hon. Salifu Adams Braimah, popularly known as “Uncle Sally”.
The Savannah Regional Secretariat of the NPP announced the passing of the revered Gonjaland politician in a statement issued on 12 April 2026. Hon. Salifu Adams Braimah died in the early hours of Sunday at the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) in Accra after a short illness, at the age of 62.
“On behalf of the Savannah Regional Party, the death of a revered Gonjalander and Party stalwart, Hon. Salifu Adams Braimah (Uncle Sally) is announced,” the statement signed by Regional Secretary Mohammed Issah read. It described him as “a staunch patriot of the New Patriotic Party who duly served the party and the nation at large.”
Hon. Salifu Adams Braimah served as the first Savannah Regional Minister after the region’s creation and represented the Salaga South constituency in the Seventh Parliament from 2017 to 2021. He was a dedicated party member who worked with several non-governmental organisations and remained active in NPP affairs, including supporting the party’s parliamentary candidate in the 2024 elections.
The regional party has instructed all activities across Savannah Region to be put on hold. Flags must fly at half-mast as the party mourns “this gallant patriot”. Burial arrangements are underway, with the family preparing to lay him to rest in Kpembe in accordance with Islamic teachings.
The passing of Hon. Salifu Adams Braimah represents a significant loss to the NPP and the people of the Savannah Region. His tenure as Regional Minister and MP exemplified the party’s commitment to grassroots development, effective regional administration, and service delivery in one of Ghana’s youngest regions. In a political landscape often marred by opportunism, figures like Uncle Sally stood out for their consistent loyalty, community engagement, and dedication to the NPP’s vision of development in freedom.
The NPP has a proud tradition of recognising and honouring those who contribute selflessly to nation-building. At a time when the current NDC administration grapples with fiscal challenges partly of its own making — including the revenue losses from hasty levy repeals — the party must draw strength from the legacy of leaders like Hon. Salifu Adams Braimah. Their example of disciplined service and patriotism underscores the importance of building strong institutions and cultivating leaders focused on long-term national interest rather than short-term populism.
As the NPP reflects on this loss, it reaffirms its resolve to uphold the values of good governance, accountability, and private-sector-driven growth that defined the contributions of its departed stalwarts. The party extends deepest condolences to the family, the people of Salaga South, and the entire Gonjaland community. May the Almighty Allah grant Hon. Salifu Adams Braimah eternal rest and comfort all who mourn him.
