The Member of Parliament for Akim Swedru, Kennedy Osei Nyarko, has called for the depoliticisation of Ghana’s security recruitment process to ensure fairness and transparency.
Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, following a presidential release on the ongoing increase in security recruitment, the MP addressed growing concerns about the politicisation of the process. He emphasised that political parties should refrain from interfering to prevent situations where party loyalists are favoured over other qualified applicants.
“We should sit back and take our hands off the security recruitment so that the process can be fair and give every qualified Ghanaian an equal opportunity,” he stated.
Osei Nyarko proposed that the government introduce a system allocating a specific number of recruits to each region from the national intake. He said this would ensure equity and give qualified applicants across the country a fair chance.
He warned that without urgent action, politicisation of security recruitment will persist regardless of which party—New Patriotic Party or National Democratic Congress—is in power.
The MP stressed that his concerns are not politically motivated but driven by a desire to see the country progress. “I am not speaking because I am in opposition, but as a concerned citizen who wants to see fairness and improvement in the system,” he stated.
