The family of the late former Vice President of Ghana, Alhaji Aliu Mahama, will hold the 13th Commemorative Adua in his honour on Sunday, November 16, 2025.

The solemn ceremony is scheduled to take place at No. 4 Switchback Road, Cantonments, beginning at 9:00 a.m.

The Islamic prayer gathering will bring together family members, political leaders, friends, and members of the Muslim community to celebrate the life and legacy of the late statesman, renowned for his humility, discipline, and devotion to national unity.

The National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, will be the Special Guest at the occasion. He is expected to lead the prayers and deliver a message centred on “reflection, peace, and faith.”

Several dignitaries from government, opposition parties, and traditional authorities are also expected to attend, highlighting the deep respect Alhaji Aliu Mahama commanded across the political divide.

The Adua, an important Islamic rite performed in remembrance of the departed, will honour Alhaji Aliu Mahama’s contributions to Ghana’s development and his lifelong commitment to discipline and nation-building.

Alhaji Aliu Mahama served as Vice President of Ghana from January 7, 2001, to January 7, 2009, under former President John Agyekum Kufuor. Until his passing in November 2012, he was widely regarded as a symbol of integrity and patriotism, inspiring generations through his selfless service and dedication to the country’s progress.

This year’s commemoration will reflect on his outstanding record in public service, his advocacy for discipline among the youth, and his unwavering efforts to promote peace, harmony, and tolerance within Ghana’s diverse society.
