TAGG threatens strike over Publican AI customs system

The Traders Advocacy Group Ghana (TAGG) has called for an industrial strike over the implementation of the Publican AI Customs system, citing its severe impact on trading activities.

In a statement dated April 10, 2026, the group warned that the system has disrupted operations at the ports, accusing it of generating excessive duty charges, causing delays in cargo clearance, and increasing demurrage and rent costs for importers.

TAGG further questioned the legality of the system, alleging that it is being managed by Truedare Investment Limited, which it claims lacks the required expertise.

The group announced plans for nationwide industrial action from April 13 to April 17, during which importers, freight forwarders, and agents are expected to suspend operations at all ports and entry points. It has also directed members to wear red armbands in protest.

TAGG is demanding the immediate suspension of the system, a review of valuation processes, and financial relief for affected traders.

It added that legal action has already been initiated against the relevant authorities, while urging government to intervene urgently to address the situation.
