Unemployed Trained Teachers reject Minister’s 6,100 recruitment plan

The Coalition of Unemployed Trained Teachers has expressed strong dissatisfaction with Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu’s announcement that 6,100 teachers will soon be recruited, describing the plan as inadequate and a disappointment to thousands of qualified graduates still without jobs.

In a statement issued on Thursday, November 20, the coalition—which represents more than 17,000 unemployed College of Education graduates—said the announcement has created even more anxiety and uncertainty among its members.

The group argued that all qualified teachers deserve employment opportunities, not just a limited number.

On Wednesday, November 19, the coalition staged a peaceful protest to demand the mass recruitment of all 2023 College of Education graduates.

They criticised the Minister’s announcement for lacking clarity and called for transparent recruitment criteria and a clear roadmap for teacher placement.

“Every qualified graduate deserves a chance to serve, and we demand that the Minister prioritises our employment,” the coalition said.
