ACCRA – The Director of Communications for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s 2024 campaign, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, is expressing a brave optimism about how Dr. Bawumia’s loss in the 2024 elections could ultimately make him win the 2028 Presidential elections. His belief is buoyed by the argument that the NDC would have to contest with a new candidate, who will likely be less marketable as compared to Dr. Bawumia.
Miracles Aboagye, speaking candidly with host Desmond Okraku Danso on Good Afternoon Ghana on Metro TV, he suggested that while Dr. Bawumia may face challenges in the 2024 general elections, a loss could ultimately position him for a more successful political journey in 2026.
Aboagye explained that the defeat in 2024 could be a strategic advantage for Bawumia, especially with the expected emergence of a new candidate from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2028 elections. “Losing in 2024 doesn’t diminish Dr. Bawumia’s relevance. In fact, it places him in a stronger position for 2028, when the political dynamics will shift with the NDC bringing in a fresh candidate,” Aboagye said.
As the race for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearership heats up ahead of the January 31st, 2026 race, Aboagye’s comments suggest that Bawumia’s political trajectory is far from over, even if he faces a setback in the upcoming elections. The focus, according to Aboagye, is on Dr. Bawumia’s vision and leadership capabilities, which will be crucial when the NPP enters the 2026 contest with a more defined strategy.
“The NPP is committed to continuing its vision of progress for Ghana, and Bawumia’s leadership will be key in guiding the country forward,” Aboagye added.
