Lorry Fares Up 20% from September 27

ACCRA – The Alliance of Drivers Ghana has officially announced a 20% increase in lorry fares, effective Saturday, September 27, 2025, citing a significant surge in fuel prices and vehicle maintenance costs as the main factors behind the fare adjustment.

According to a press release dated September 24, 2025, the price of fuel has risen from GH₵11.23 to GH₵14.63 per liter, putting substantial financial pressure on commercial drivers across the country.

In the statement, the leadership of the Alliance of Drivers Ghana expressed frustration, noting that many drivers are returning home empty-handed despite working long hours.

“We are self-employed and receive no government support. With fuel prices and spare parts increasing daily, it’s becoming impossible to make a living without revising fares,” the group stated.

They also highlighted increased expenses on engine oil, spare parts, and general vehicle maintenance, further justifying the need for a fare adjustment.

The Alliance is calling on all transport operators nationwide to implement the 20% fare increase and urged government and passengers to understand the drivers’ plight.

“We appeal to passengers to bear with us during this difficult time. We also call on all transport operators to support this fare increment and stop prioritizing government interests over the survival of drivers.
