PTTAG advocates Broader Recognition of Teachers’ Contributions

Communications Director of the Pre-Tertiary Teachers Association of Ghana (PTTAG), Kingsley Ayimadu, has raised concern about the continued undervaluing of teachers in Ghana, despite their crucial role in national development.

Speaking on the Happy Morning Show, Mr. Ayimadu emphasized that teaching remains one of the most important professions, yet the contributions of educators are often overlooked. He welcomed the 2025 World Teachers’ Day theme, “Elevating the Status of Teachers for Quality Education”, but pointed out that more than just slogans are needed.

“Words alone are not enough. We need practical actions and deliberate efforts to truly uplift the status of teachers. That’s what will motivate us to keep giving our best, even with the little we earn,” he said.

Mr. Ayimadu also revealed that PTTAG has proposed an expansion of the national teachers’ awards scheme to ensure the inclusion of more educators in rural areas. He noted that such recognition would boost morale and encourage teachers across all regions.

“Recognition should not be limited to urban centers. Teachers in rural communities also make immense sacrifices and deserve to be celebrated,” he added.
