Ghana’s World Cup Dream Alive, But Team Needs More Work – Sports Minister

Ghana has secured a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after a narrow 1-0 victory over Comoros, but according to Sports Minister Hon. Kofi Adams, the journey is far from over.

Speaking during an interview with Gideon Okyere Anim, popularly known as Gatusso, on Original TV, the Minister expressed his excitement over the qualification but emphasized that the Black Stars must continue improving if they want to make a real impact on the world stage.

“Yes, we have qualified, and that’s a great achievement. But there’s still a lot of room for improvement,” Hon. Adams said. “We want the team to go beyond just qualifying – we want to make history.”

The decisive goal against Comoros ensured Ghana’s spot in the upcoming World Cup, set to be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico in 2026.

While fans across the nation are celebrating the win, the Sports Minister is urging both the technical team and players to focus on building a stronger squad capable of competing with the world’s best.

Ghana’s campaign under coach Otto Addo was a rollercoaster, marked by a 1-1 draw against Chad in March and a hard-fought 1-0 win over Mali in September, which Adams hailed as a turning point. The Black Stars lead Madagascar into the final round of games last Sunday.

The Black Stars topped Group I with 25 points from nine games, losing one game and drawing another in the lead to their eventual qualification which was sealed at the Accra Sports Stadium on the 12th of October, 2025.

Whiles awaiting for balloting for the group stages of the mundial in December, 2025, the Sports and Recreation Minister believes it is time for the coach to rectify identified lapses to ensure the team is strongly built for the 2026 World Cup.
