‘I’m not feeling your game’ – Domelevo gives verdict on A-G’s performance on corruption

A former Auditor-General, Daniel Yao Domelevo, has given his verdict on the performance of his successor, Johnson Akuamoah Asiedu, in the fight against corruption.

He stated that he is neither impressed nor satisfied with the performance of his successor as Auditor-General, particularly when it comes to holding high-ranking individuals and public institutions accountable.

Speaking on the KSM Show on October 7, 2025, Domelevo, who is widely regarded for his anti-corruption stance, indicated that the Auditor-General should be prosecuting offenders to serve as a deterrent to others.

“And my successor, I’m not feeling you, Johnson. I’m not seeing the surcharge certificates flying. You should be holding some big guns or the big shots, the big men accountable by now, so that there is fear and panic in the system to create deterrence … There should be deterrence, so, Auditor-General, I’m pleading with you. I like you, you are my brother, please up your game. I’m not feeling your game. You must let us feel the game,” he said.

Domelevo further went on to express his frustration over what he described as a declining impact under the current leadership.

“One of the biggest mechanisms to check abuse of public funds is the creation of the office of the Auditor-General. The Auditor-General is the only one who goes around to look into your records, identify wrongdoing, disagree with you, disallow it and searches you. Have you heard any judge who goes around looking for criminals, come and prosecute them and sentence them before? But the Auditor-General has been given this wild mandate,” he said.

On the issue of asset declaration, Domelevo revealed that a key reform tool, an automated asset and liabilities declaration system developed under his leadership, has been shelved without any explanation.

He criticised the decision to abandon the digital system in favour of the old paper-based method, describing it as a waste of public funds that, in his view, does not promote progress in public systems.

“Again, there are some things [like] assets and liabilities declaration, for instance, we have all talked about it, which is a big tool for fighting corruption. We still remain the same… The legal framework I’m talking about, that also must have to change so that there can be verification. And then there should be consequences for non-disclosure so that people will comply and do the right thing.

“That has not been done and it is painful to me. Before leaving office, you’ll be surprised to know that we had developed an electronic asset and liability declaring system where you can go on your phone or you can go on your laptop in the comfort of your office or home and declare your assets. It was tested,” he disclosed.

“We used the staff of audit service to test it. I brought a team from the World Bank to do quality assurance and they gave us a clean certificate of health that your system is robust and good enough. It has been packed. I have no idea and I don’t know why my brother Johnson Asiedu has decided to continue with the paper, even though we have an automated system that we can use. So this is how public service waste resources,” added.
