The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) Clinic has paid a fine of at least GHC40,000 to the Health Facilities and Regulatory Agency (HeFRA) for operating without renewing its license.
The clinic was among 18 health facilities shut down on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, during HeFRA’s ongoing enforcement exercise in the Ashanti Region.
Speaking to Citi News, the Head of Public Relations at HeFRA, Christabel Eyram Nuhoho, on Monday, October 20, confirmed that the facility was reopened on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, a day after the shutdown, following the payment of the fine.
She says a provisional license has been issued to the facility to allow it to operate for six months, as it has yet to meet all the required standards set by the agency.
“KMA Clinic has been reopened to the public. It was reopened, I think, just the following day because management of KMA had come to HeFRA (Health Facilities Regulatory Agency). They were fined, and they have paid their fine.
“They also paid for what we call expert inspection because there’s a standby team that is always available to go and do the inspection if you are ready. So once they expressed interest that they were ready for the inspection, inspections were done in that facility. And per the inspection that was done, they didn’t meet all the requirements.
He added, “Obviously, we were not expecting them to get 100/100, but they did meet the minimum requirements, for which reason they were given a provisional license to operate for six months, within which they are expected to implement the recommendations that they were given. Once they implement those recommendations, and they alert HeFRA, we will go and do what we call re-inspection.
“After the re-inspection, if we are satisfied that they have done or implemented all the recommendations that they were given, then the Board will issue them what we call a long-term licence, which is for three years.”
She indicated that out of the 32 closed facilities, eight have been reopened after meeting the requirements.
