From Kasoa to KNUST: Felix Baidoo’s Inspiring journey to valedictorian

A young man from Kasoa in Ghana’s Central Region has turned a journey marked by hardship, grit, and interrupted dreams into an inspiring academic triumph.

Felix Quacoe Baidoo, once unsure of how far his ambitions could carry him, has emerged as the valedictorian of the College of Arts and Built Environment at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), graduating with an impressive CWA of 83.07 in Land Economy.

His story began at Jukwa Senior High Technical School, where he finished as the overall best student in the Twifo Hemang Lower Denkyira District with an outstanding 7 As and a B. But despite his brilliance, financial limitations stalled his hopes of entering university immediately. Determined to press on, he took up a teaching job at a primary school in Kasoa to raise funds – a plan that was abruptly derailed when the COVID-19 pandemic cost him his job in 2020.

In early 2021, Baidoo gained admission to the University of Ghana School of Law. However, the campus funding he relied on never materialized. With no option but to defer during his very first semester, he returned home and picked up another teaching role before later serving as a field officer in the 2021 Population and Housing Census.

A turning point came when a benefactor guided him to apply for the Mastercard Foundation Scholarship at KNUST. Winning the scholarship changed everything. He enrolled in 2022 to pursue a BSc in Land Economy and immediately began rewriting his destiny.

Baidoo excelled from the onset: he was named overall best Mastercard Scholar, best male scholar of his cohort, and top first-year student in the Department of Land Economy. Two years later, in his third year, he reclaimed the title of best male scholar, affirming his consistent academic excellence.

Today, as Felix stands on the KNUST graduation stage, far from the crowded streets and tough beginnings of Kasoa where his dreams first took shape, his journey feels almost surreal. What began with uncertainty, sacrifice, and countless setbacks has blossomed into a moment of pride and fulfillment. His story is more than an academic success – it is a reminder that with resilience, kindness from others, and unwavering belief in oneself, even the most distant dreams can become reality.
