Minority flags budget errors, calls for immediate corrections

The Minority in Parliament has expressed deep concern over what it describes as significant errors in the 2026 Budget, including the listing of a Ministry of Works and Housing, which it says no longer exists.

Addressing Parliament on Wednesday, December 17, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin explained that the concerns raised were not meant to be dismissed, but rather to ensure that the identified mistakes are corrected to maintain the credibility of the budget.

He drew attention to an approved amount of GH¢3,758,338,088, describing the figure as inaccurate. According to him, the discrepancy had already been identified and discussed after an earlier intervention on the floor of the House.

Mr Afenyo-Markin noted that it was the responsibility of the government side to formally bring the issue before Parliament and move a motion to replace the erroneous figure with the correct one.

He therefore urged the House to confirm that the necessary amendments would be effected and called on the Leader of Government Business to provide clarity on how the matter would be resolved.

The Minority Leader stressed that accuracy and transparency are critical to the budget approval process, warning that errors left uncorrected could undermine the integrity of parliamentary decisions.
