Avoid Tribal Politics To Win 2028 – NAPO Tells NPP Supporters

Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as NAPO, has urged members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to reject tribal and religious politics as the party prepares for its internal processes ahead of the 2028 general elections.

The 2024 NPP Vice Presidential candidate warned that the use of divisive rhetoric during internal campaigns could deepen negative stereotypes about the party and weaken its national appeal among the Ghanaian electorate.

Speaking in a Facebook post on Saturday, January 10, 2026, after joining Hajia Samira Bawumia’s campaign tour in the Manhyia South Constituency, Dr Opoku Prempeh expressed concern about what he described as creeping bigotry within the party.

“This is a party that has been branded tribal; we cannot perpetuate it,” he stated, noting that careless comments by some party members only reinforce claims that the NPP is an ethnically driven political organisation. He insisted, however, that such a label does not reflect the true values of the party.

According to NAPO, the NPP is a democratic party founded on shared values and common humanity, not ethnicity, religion, or gender. He emphasised that democracy is about individual choice and equal participation, stressing the principle of “one man, one vote.”

He also used the occasion to reaffirm his support for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, describing him as the candidate with the experience, clarity, and national appeal to lead the party to victory. He called on party members to unite behind the NPP, regardless of personal preferences.
